The Great Gates, the story of how George Gatsbys father was killed, will premiere May 26.
Gatsby, who died in 1947, was the son of a prosperous New York City lawyer who worked in a high-stakes poker game with his family.
He met his wife, Emma (Evan Rachel Wood), in high school and the pair began a family, though Gats by then had a long-term girlfriend, Ethel (Julia Roberts), whom he met while living in Los Angeles.
Their relationship ended in divorce in 1954.
Gates died in 2002 at the age of 82, and his memoirs were recently released as a film adaptation of his autobiography, “My Father, My Son, and the Last Man of the Great Gaters.”
He said that while he had a hard time telling his story in print, he wanted to share his story so others can learn from it.
“It’s a story about family and the power of family and how people in this country have the power to make or break people’s lives,” he said in a recent interview.
“I don’t want to be a hero, but I do want to share my story so that people can be better at family.”
The book is the second in a series, and first to be published by HarperCollins.
The first was written in 2011 by New York Times best-selling author David Foster Wallace, who is currently working on a second novel.
Wallace was also a prolific screenwriter and actor who has written for films such as “The Lord of the Rings” and “Blade Runner.”
He is also a writer and producer on the HBO series “True Detective,” and his latest novel, “The Big Sick,” has been adapted into a movie starring Benedict Cumberbatch.
The book was published in March by Hachette.
