More than half of Australian workers are earning less than $20,000 a year, with the lowest-paid jobs accounting for less than 2% of total employment.

The number of people in the 25-54 age group who have no jobs has increased from 4.7 million in September to 5.2 million in October.
The Labor government is taking the tough approach to addressing the long-term unemployment problem, saying it will cut the unemployment rate in half by 2021.
“If we do the right thing, the unemployment gap between the rich and poor will close,” Premier Gladys Berejiklian said.
“We have the most generous welfare system in the world.
We have the best public schools in the developed world.”
She said the government will spend $12 billion in the coming financial year to help Australians get into work.
“People are working harder than ever to make ends meet, and the longer they stay out of work the greater the pressure is on our economy,” Ms Berejkian said at a press conference in Canberra.
“That’s why we’re going to have to work harder, faster and smarter.”
A survey released on Wednesday showed almost half of Australians do not know how much their job pays.
The unemployment level is the proportion of the population who are unemployed or out of the labour force, based on the latest figures released by the ABS.
The national unemployment rate rose to 13 per cent in September, the highest level since August of last year.
The Australian Bureau of Statistics (ABS) data also showed that Australians with a job earned $26,000 in September.
The average annual wage for the jobless was $24,300.
The ABS also released data on median earnings for different types of jobs.
While there was a slight increase in the median earnings in September from $24.40 to $26.20, the median wage was down $2,500 from September 2018.
The lowest paid jobs in the labour market are in retail, hospitality, warehousing and manufacturing.
The Bureau of Australian Industry and Commerce (AICC) reported that there were almost 2.1 million jobs created in September in the public sector, the lowest number in more than five years.
There were 2.6 million jobs in retail and 644,000 jobs in agriculture and forestry, the second lowest number since November 2018.
There was a 2.3 million increase in retail employment, an increase of 5,300 jobs.
There also was a 646,000 increase in manufacturing jobs.
