The Eagles have plenty of options when it comes to roster upgrades and free agency.
There’s always the possibility that they could go after one of the top free agents on the market and find success in doing so.
But with a team that’s looking to improve its depth at cornerback and the addition of another veteran cornerback, there’s an opportunity for them to go after a player who might help them in the long run.
“We’ve got to find a guy who can play the nickel corner position,” coach Doug Pederson said.
“I’ve got a lot of guys that can play nickel corner, but we have to find someone who can come in and compete with some of the best corners in the league and compete.
So we’re trying to find that.”
It’s not just a matter of having the right player, but also finding a solution that can fit both sides.
“It’s a lot easier to go in and find somebody who fits what you want, than it is to go out and find a player that fits what’s your vision,” Pederson explained.
“There’s no doubt about it.
We’ve got guys in the room, and we’ve got some guys out there, who want to do what we’re doing.
That’s what it comes down to.”
Here’s a look at some of those guys who could help the Eagles find a corner:Cornerback is an area of need for the Eagles.
It’s been one of their biggest weaknesses, as they’ve had a lack of help up front.
With players like Fletcher Cox and Byron Maxwell expected to be free agents after the season, Pederson has to find something.
“The best part about it is that if we do what’s best for our team, that will be what we’ll go with,” Pedson said.
The Eagles are in the market for an experienced cornerback, and Pederson wants to find one that can compete with one of those top players.
“The guys that we have out there are going to be competing, so we’ve just got to be patient, find that player and see what he’s all about,” he said.
It’s no secret that the Eagles have a lot on their plate heading into training camp.
They’re hoping to have the team in place to go into the season without injured starters Jordan Hicks and Fletcher Cox.
Both are dealing with injuries, and it’s possible that they’ll miss a number of games due to the illnesses.
It could also be difficult for the team to make the playoffs without both players, and they’ll have to hope that they can find a replacement in time.
In addition, Peder said he’ll need to make some changes to his defensive line.
There are a number players who can contribute in different ways, but he’ll have some decisions to make if he does decide to go that route.
The biggest challenge for Pederson will be finding a player with the skill set that the team is looking for.
There is a lot to like about what the Eagles are looking for in a cornerback, but it’s clear that Pederson isn’t looking to get rid of a veteran that can help the team.
It will be interesting to see how the team reacts to this acquisition.
If the Eagles can’t find a top cornerback, they’ll likely have to rely on players who are ready to step into the lineup.
